Looks like Costco matched the Sam's Club deal.

HOWEVER, those credits can only be used on your own tickets now. I.e., in gift card form you could apply the GC to your entire family's tickets, but in flight credit form you can only apply amount to tickets in your own name.

Thanks for correcting me. I remember having credit in my Southwest account years ago so assumed we can add gift cards to Southwest account. Probably it was credit from flight cancellation. I will edit my post.

Is this worth doing? Or is there no point.
Not worth it because after a cancelled flight, those flight credits expire after a year, while if you left it as a gift card, that would never expire.

Southwest credit does not expire anymore
These credits no longer expire.
As of when? My friend's flight credits from a year ago just expired. If true, then that's way better to use the gift card and cancel the flight. Keeping the gift card unused runs the risk someone stealing your number and using/selling it.
